 First, thanks for being a subscriber to Lean and Green! 🙏

2023 was a pretty rough year for me, so I’m excited for a better 2024.

 Instead of running a marathon in 2023, I hurt my hip in January and only started running again in December.  

 I had two job offers in February, and I picked the wrong one. The one I picked turned out to be a startup in disarray and resulted in me getting laid off in July.

 My mom got sick just after I got laid off, wound up in hospice, and so I spent most of the next three months dealing with long-distance end-of-life challenges. 

From a good news perspective, she passed away as beautifully as possible, with my dad, the love of her life and husband of 60 years, snuggled in bed next to her, while her kids and others who loved her gathered around to usher her into her afterlife. 

 While tear-filled, the hospice staff brought so much support, structure, insight, and love into her final days, that instead of just sadness, I feel deep gratitude and appreciation about the entire process. 

 So, while job and parent-loss are hard, things could always be worse.

 My middle daughter works with refugees, and the traumas they endure are way beyond any challenges I’ve faced, so every morning I try to count my blessings, including having you as a subscriber, so thanks for your support!
